Egypt is spending billions to convince the world its contracts are safe and it is an investment haven. We are the forty-year-old state contract that ended up underneath a sales brochure.

Who we are

We are the families of Disney Beach and Baghoush… Egyptian owners from every walk of life, Egyptians through and through. Our village has stood at kilometre 48 since 1992. Our parents bought these homes from the Egyptian state itself in 1987; the Minister of Tourism personally signed the contract. It was the first project Egypt's General Authority for Investment ever launched on the northwest coast, and three generations of us have grown up in it. And right now, units of a project called "Hacienda Ras El Hekma" are being sold to strangers, for hundreds of millions of pounds, drawn directly over our houses. While we live in them.

What happened after the Hacienda Ras El Hekma ads

Since those ads appeared, the pressure has been methodical. First, marketing that pretends we don't exist. Then bulldozers at our doorsteps, turned back by the security forces because there was no legal basis to demolish anything. Then months without electricity or water, with families still inside. Each move designed to do what no paperwork could: scare us into signing away our contracts and walking away from our rights.

We didn't walk away. We put solar panels on the roofs, filed every complaint with the prosecution, and took the whole thing to court. Case No. 57480 is now before Egypt's State Council, and we trust Egypt's judiciary to say its word.

You don't have to believe us… read the documents

Here's the thing: you don't have to believe any of this. Our contract, our commercial register, the government decrees, the coordinate tables, the official reports: every page is published on this site, free, no sign-up, and you can check each one against the state's own records. People with nothing to hide publish. So we published everything.

And to be clear, we have nothing against investment. Our parents were investing in this coast back when it was bare sand without a road or a light pole. What we stand against is simpler: no Egyptian should lose his home to a brochure, and no contract signed by the state should land in the trash because somebody stronger came along.

We are co-owners in common under an official state sale contract, under Investment Law 43 of 1974 and Egypt's General Authority for Investment. Commercial Register No. 243949 proves it.

No to displacing the families of Baghoush and Disney Beach… and no to displacing Egyptians in the name of investment. We are not dust to be swept aside in silence. Share this page.
